Board games are fun in general, but add in a little bit of alcohol and things can get way more exciting. We have found that some of our favorite drinking board games hit a whole new level of gameplay when we add in some of our favorite cocktails. We call these our “tipsy game nights.” These board games for tipsy game nights have become our goto list for the best board games and party games to play while drunk or tipsy.

Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with some of these games. In this article, we will go over all of the great board games and party games that are fun to play while drunk or tipsy.
We never used to incorporate alcoholic beverages into our game nights. It wasn’t until we got older and became adults that we felt the desire to change up our usual get togethers by enjoying some adult beverages. Drinking and playing board games can make for an unexpectedly fun and exciting game night. You can either convert your favorite board games and card games you already own into a drinking game OR you can just play fun party games that will be way more fun while you drink.
It’s not necessary to convert a board game into a drinking game. Simply just play the game how it is meant to be playedand drink your favorite alcoholic beverages while you play. We love inviting people over for some drinks and board games because it allows people to let loose and really show a side of them that they might not usually show in social settings.

Cockroach Poker
Cockroach Poker is a really fun game even for non gamers. This is a classic bluffing game that forces you to look into your friend’s eyes and either lie or tell the truth! Add in some alcohol and this can create a hilarious and competitive atmosphere for your next game night.
The rules are so simple, so there is no need to spend time trying to teach your tipsy friends a complicated game. It’s basically poker without the math, and is a very fun party game to play while drunk or tipsy!
What makes this game even more fun and exciting is that there is no winner. There is only one loser! Make the loser of Cockroach Poker drink a big cup of everyone’s drinks mixed together. We like to call this the “bitch cup” (excuse our language). This added aspect will definitely push people to play hard and showcase their bluffing skills.

Trivial Pursuit
Everyone loves trivia. If you don’t, then what’s wrong with you!? Just kidding, but think about all the people who go to bars to drink and play some late night trivia. My friends and I sure do love it!
Why not incorporate some trivia into your tipsy game night by playing some Trivial Pursuit? Find out which of your friends are smarter after drinking and whose brain shrinks after a few beers/cocktails.
Pick up a copy of Trivial Pursuit that has questions and answers already written out for you. Add in a unique drinking aspect where every time someone gets a question wrong, they have to take a sip of their drink.

The Red Dragon Inn
Red Dragon Inn forces players to head to the pub for a night of drinking, gambling, and fights. Not literally, but why not add in the drinking part and make believe you are heading out to the pub with some friends.
Whenever we play this board game while drinking, we act like we are the characters and this creates nothing but chaos and laughs. Drinks help us really nail the roles and get into character.
When playing through the Red Dragon Inn board game, you and your adventuring companions will spend the night drinking, gambling, and roughhousing. The last person who is both sober enough to remain conscious and shrewd enough to hold onto his/her Gold Coins, wins the game.
Now that is what the game entails in the box, but why not add in an added twist of real drinks and, wait for it, money! Your friends might quite literally pass out before making it to the end of the game and the one who remains the most sober should be victorious!

Happy Salmon
Happy Salmon is a silly card game that is perfect to play with friends while drunk or tipsy. It’s a simple card game that will be easily learned by your tipsy friends and will be sure to create a lot of chaos and laughs.
In Happy Salmon, there are no turns. Players call out the action shown on their cards as fast as they can. When two players have a match, they celebrate by performing the action. Actions include the classic “High 5”, the unifying “Pound It”, the frantic “Switcheroo”, and the delightful and bizarre “Happy Salmon”.
Just think how fun this card game can get when you are drinking. You can even incorporate your own actions onto the cards like “Take a Shot” or “Chug a Beer.

Cards Against Humanity
Cards Against Humanity is a game you MUST play when drunk or tipsy. It’s one of the best adult party card games that is bound to create tons of laughs while you play.
It doesn’t take much to get the hang of matching cards together to make up hilarious scenarios and wildly inappropriate statements. You may see this game advertised as a “party game for horrible people,” and this statement can hold true once you’re a few rounds deep playing with your friends who are drunk and tipsy.
We love playing cards against humanity and it is one of the easiest games to whip out during a party with friends. The concept is simple, but you need to turn on your charm and sense of humor to make sure you are making the best combinations with the cards you have been dealt.
You can never go wrong with cards against humanity. Just make sure your friends aren’t overly sensitive and can take a joke.

Sheriff of Nottingham
Sheriff of Nottingham is a very pure and fun game that makes players hone in on their lying and buffing skills. What makes this game even more fun is playing while drinking. See which of your friends can keep their composure and which friends will call you out on your bluffs.
In Sheriff of Nottingham, players will not only be able to experience Nottingham as a merchant of the city, but each turn one player will step into the shoes of the Sheriff himself.
Players declare goods they wish to bring into the city, goods that are secretly stored in their burlap sack. The Sheriff must then determine who gets into the city with their goods, who gets inspected, and who may have their goods confiscated!
This game has a great theme, and it can really get exciting when people fall into their roles as they try to trick, lie, or bribe their way past the sheriff.
I just feel like all bluffing games are so much more fun when you are playing with people you know and you add in some fun cocktails to drink while you play.

Exploding Kittens
Exploding kittens is a fast paced, intense card game that can create a lot of laughs and shouting around the playing table. When people have drinks in them, things can get rowdy. That’s why you should throw in a game of Exploding Kittens at your tipsy game night and ramp up the energy in the room!
The website describes this game as “a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions, and laser beams, and sometimes goats.” And hey, we must agree! Who doesn’t love goats?
Exploding Kittens is known for being the most-backed game in kickstarter’s history. Meaning that people saw the awesomeness of this game and wanted it to be made, fast!
It’s basically a highly-strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette that can provide your group with fun for hours as you can keep playing rounds over and over again. And trust me, we have played many rounds of this game whether it is helpingavoid picking up an exploding kitten, or making someone else take the risk of picking one up.
If you hate cats, you should still get this game. Why? Because there are also goats and laser beams. I mean come on. You are sure to have a great time with Exploding Kittens.

Telestrations After Dark
We just played Telestrations After Dark recently at our last tipsy game night. It was so much! We noticed that most of our friend’s drawing skills decline very rapidly as they fill up with more and more drinks throughout the night. It was pretty funny.
But who cares! This game really has no winner in my opinion and is just meant to create a lot of laughs and endless fun.
There are two versions of the game “Telestratons.” When drinking, we recommend the “After Dark” version because it is geared more towards adults and can get insanely inappropriate (in a good way).
This hilarious game of guessing and drawing include word cards such as “Anaconda”, “Jackhammer”, “Doggie Style”, and “Human Centipede”. Just think about how these words can create something, well let’s say, completely out of context (especially if your friends are terrible at drawing and are also drunk).

Curmudgeon
Curmudgeon is one of the newer party games on the market just released in 2020. We happened to play this one a few weeks ago at our tipsy game night and found it to be a ton of fun!
In Curmudgeon, you’re a cantankerous crank, a surly grump, a crusty grouch, and an ill-tempered malcontent all in one body! This game rewards you for being the biggest Curmudgeon on the block because it’s pretty great.
Curmudgeon is a game of insults! Use your own creativity to build insults from keywords. Throw those insults on other players’ life cards, engage in retort battles, win the battles and earn points. After the final round, all players have died and the game ends. The person with the most points wins and dies the biggest Curmudgeon!
I feel like drinking makes people more prone to throw out insults, so why not have a game that is meant to insult your friends. If your friends group likes to joke around and make fun of eachother in a lighthearted way, then this is the perfect game to play!

Jackbox Party Pack
The Jackbox Party Pack Games are a huge hit during our tipsy game nights, especially since you only need a tv and each player uses their own cell phones as their “controller” or gamepad.
If people at your game night are hesitant to part ways with their phone and focus on a physical board game, then this is the perfect game. You literally need to use your phone as your controller.
Each Jackbox party pack game comes with 5 games in one great pack. Jackbox is now up to their sixth pack! There is so much to say about these packs because there are so many different games to play.
To sum it up, if you want to have fun with friends, especially when drinking, firing up one of the Jackbox Party Packs is an easy way to do so. Some of our favorite games to play are Quiplash and Bidiots!
Best drink(s) to pair with Jackbox Party Games: Sherbet Punch or Jello Shots! Yum

Throw Throw Burrito
Throw Throw Burrito is a combination of dodgeball and a card game. Yes, you heard that right. In case you didn’t hear us the first time, we said dodgeball and a card game squished together to make a game called Throw Throw Burrito.
Now we know things can get a little crazy when people drink, so you might want to head outside to play this one or find an open area with no valuables around.
The rules are simple. Collect cards, play your hand, and throw things at your friends! Playing this game for the first time was so much fun. Who knew chucking a squishy burrito at your friends face would be so fun. We sure didn’t.
This is another fast paced game where you must stay on your guard at all times. Get ready to dodge, duck, and dive to avoid those flying burritos!
Are you ready to start throwing burritos? We sure are. Well, actually now I’m kind of hungry and want a burrito. Nevermind, onto the next game on our list of best game night games!
